Email Subject: Please support flexibility for property owners: Support H369

Dear Representative (Name):

My name is (Your name here), and I am a constituent. I live in (name of your town). I am writing to you today to ask for your support of H369, which will soon be coming to the floor of the House for a vote.

Today, North Carolina is experiencing a housing shortage, and there are not enough homes to rent or buy. Not having enough homes is creating competition and driving up prices.  People our community rely on - teachers, child care workers, and retail or service workers - can’t find homes they can afford in the communities they live in. Allowing more homes of all shapes and sizes will help make our cities and towns more affordable.

One key thing that makes homes more expensive is that cities and towns have strict rules dictating exactly how much parking must be built for each home. These rules are inflexible and take choices away from property owners and home builders who can best consider how many parking spaces are needed for each type of home.

These inflexible rules take rights away from property owners and prevent homeowners and builders from using what they know best - their local area - to decide how many parking spaces are needed. Parking spaces are expensive to build, adding thousands of dollars to the cost of every home or apartment. H369 would let the market dictate how many spaces are needed, based on local circumstances.

This legislation can help address housing affordability challenges while promoting property rights and economic opportunity for owners and renters alike.

I am asking for your support of H369 when it comes to the House floor.

Thank you,

(Your name)
